Smugglers Rest Holiday Cottage was once 2 fisherman's cottages built from granite by original covers. Now beautifully renovated this spacious and warm self-catering holiday cottage has central heating and hot water on demand and every room having sea views.
The cottage is situated behind the old harbour, with a spacious front terrace patio, and a steep rockery garden at the rear with a shed to store body and surf boards, and a summer chalet with wicker chairs at the top for a peaceful glass of wine. The front patio is a sun trap in the summer so if the wind is blowing you can pull out the sun loungers and read and bask in the warmth. There is a large barbeque, a garden bench, table and chairs.
The ground floor is partly open plan and has a wooden floor throughout. The living room is made cosy by a woodburning stove and although it is rarely cold enough to need the fire, it is lovely to draw the velvet curtains and snuggle up in the winter. There is a 2-seater sofa and 2 chairs, and you can bring in chairs from the kitchen area. There is a large rug and a bookcase with plenty of books and DVDs, and local maps.
The ground floor is kept warm by the Rayburn, and the kitchen has every utensil you could need. If you aren't familiar with cooking in a Rayburn there is also a combi-oven and a small electric oven and plates. There is a fridge here and another one with a freezer compartment in the shed. You will find dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, tea, coffee and sugar all ready for you. The butchers block is the centre piece of the kitchen. A door opens from the kitchen onto the front patio, and there are 2 chairs from which to watch and talk to the cook! We have plenty of Cath Kidston crockery, cutlery, mugs and glasses. The dresser also houses board games.
The dining area has a wooden table, and you can sit 6 with plenty of arm room. There are CD and ipod players (and CDs if you like jazz). Patio doors open from the dining area onto the terrace. Behind the dining area there is a bathroom and shower with spare wetsuits, and beach towels and rungs. Both bathrooms have toilet rolls, shampoo and shower gel, hand soap, and cleaning materials.
Upstairs all the bedrooms have sea views across the harbour to the bay. The master bedroom has a double bed, full length mirror, chest of drawers and chair with a hairdryer and bedsite lamps.
One twin room is more feminine in Cath Kidston pink and blue with a mirror, bedside table with hairdryer, and a wardrobe. The second twin room is spacious with a wardrobe, large mirror and bedside stool and lamps. It is more neutrally decorated.
The main bathroom houses the immersion heater and towels, along with a bath with hand shower and large sink and mirror.
